Animal and Equine Care
The Eastern Cape Horse Care Unit was started in the Nelson Mandela Metro, South Africa during June 2006 by Megan Hope. Its Foundation came about due to concerned residents identifying that there was a dire need for the education of horse and donkey owners in the Metro.
Horses and Donkeys are pivotal to many of those affected by poverty as a means to income, a vehicle by which people can get around, remove rubbish, sell scrap and move loads, and a host of other activities.
As such it was concluded that public awareness, traffic safety and education of owners as to the value of proper care and kindness to the animals that contributed to their communities' wellbeing was sorely needed.
